Synopsis

Nothing ventured, nothing banged…

Ash
I still don’t know how it happened. One minute I was arguing with my arrogant competitor–our usual trash-talk over who deserves the larger commission. But somehow I went from throwing down to kneeling down…
It can never happen again. I don’t even like Braht. He’s too slick. He’s a manipulating mansplaining party boy in preppy clothes.
So why can’t I get him out of my head?

Braht
There are two things I know without question. One: Ash and I are destined for each other. Two: never trust a man with a unibrow.
Ash is my missing my piece. She’s the sweet cream to my gourmet espresso. And nothing gets me going faster than her contempt for me. They don’t call her the Ashkicker for nothing.

Eventually I’ll win her over…if my past doesn’t ruin everything first.

An Exclusive Excerpt from Man Card…

Front Cover of Man CardName your other favorite movies,” I challenge Braht.

All of them?” He chugs his margarita.

Hmm. Top ten? Top five?”

That’s totally easy,” he says. Somehow I’ve gotten closer to him on the floor. When he sits back, I actually snuggle in beside him. He’s wearing a ridiculously soft shirt that feels good against my skin. And I watch with fascination as he ticks off the names of films on his fingers. When Harry Met Sally. The Devil Wears Prada. Roman Holiday. Clueless. And Working Girl.”

I burst out laughing. I can’t help it. Those are all chick flicks. You should just hand over your man card right now.”

Not a chance.” Braht’s expression grows intense. In the first place, I gave you a very thorough demonstration of my man card last week. I don’t remember hearing any complaints.”

I swallow hard, because this is certainly true.

And secondly, you’re looking at this all backward.”

I…am?” And why can’t I look away? He has the most beautiful, intelligent eyes.

Yeah, you are,” he whispers. It’s the guy who has a firm grip on his man card that can hold your purse. He’s not afraid to be seen with that Tory Burch you like to carry—nice color, by the way. He’ll free up your hands because he likes your hands, and he remembers all the terrific things you can use them for.”

Oh,” I say slowly. Now my fingers itch to reach out for him. I have to make fists with both hands so I won’t do it.

Furthermore, he’s not afraid to quote Working Girl. Because Joan Cusack is a genius. And who wouldn’t want to say Melanie Griffith’s best line out loud?”

I can’t help saying it with him, and together we sound like the world’s horniest Greek chorus: I have a head for business and a body for sin.”

Sin sounds pretty good right now, actually. But Braht’s not done with his speech. Any man who tells you that chick flicks are for pussies can’t be any good in bed. Because that man does not speak the language of women. He doesn’t know that a little luxury can erase a shitty day of worrying about your ex…”

Braht takes my hand in his and begins to massage it. He has a great technique, applying gentle pressure between each joint. I relax just a little bit more against him.

“…That man doesn’t speak the language because he’s afraid of sounding like a girl. But fuck that noise, honey bear. If a man doesn’t have the vocabulary to describe a satin teddy with peekaboo lace and mother-of-pearl snaps at the crotch, he can’t buy it for you and then strategically ask you to wear it. He can’t plan ahead to blow your mind sometime by lifting your skirt somewhere semi-public and dangerous. And he can’t get down on his knees and kiss that lace and then pop open those snaps while you bite your own hand to keep from screaming when you climax.” Braht takes a deep breath and lets it out in one hot gust. Fuck. What was the point of this speech?”

“Um…” My voice is hoarse, and my face is suddenly very hot. Let’s not even mention my nipples. Man cards, I think.” But I’m not sure, because everything tingles.

Right,” he says with a sigh. Still got mine. Shall we watch Working Girl next?”

Okay,” I breathe, sinking a little further into his comforting embrace.

My Review of Man Card

Man Card (Man Hands, #2)Man Card by Sarina Bowen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this story even more than Man Hands, which was one of my favorite romantic reads of 2017. Man Card is the smart, sexy, sassy, often funny, sometimes suspenseful, almost heart-breaking, frienemies-to-lovers sequel to Man Hands, taking the story of three best girlfriends – and the men they love – to a new level.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about Ashley and Braht when they were introduced as secondary characters in Man Hands. Their love-hate relationship seemed, at first, a bit too superficial and their no-holds-barred competitive real estate stunts felt a little over-the-top. That is until Sarina took that pent-up hostility, matched it with pent-up passion, and made it explosive. By the end of Man Hands, I was ready, eager, and waiting for more of these two quirky characters.

Man Card delivers — and then some. The competitive pranks continue, and they’re hilarious. The chemistry escalates to a fever pitch. But beneath the surface, we find two slightly broken people, people with painful secrets, trying to put the past behind them and find joy in life. For Braht, it’s Ashley, and he knows it. For Ashley, it’s Braht, and she hasn’t figured that out yet.

I love Braht’s patience, protectiveness, persistence, determination, sense of humor, sense of responsibility, and his persistence. I love Ashley’s spirit, creativity, compassion, and strength. You will too. Man Card may be read as a standalone, but for maximum enjoyment, get the party started with Man Hands. Do yourself a favor: one-click Man Hands today, pre-order Man Card at the same time, then sit back and enjoy this funny, sexy, angsty, delightful ride from beginning to end.

BRYNN

At thirty-four, I’m reeling from a divorce. I don’t want to party or try to move on. I just want to stay home and post a new recipe on my blog: Brynn’s Dips and Balls.

But my friends aren’t having it. Get out there again, they say. It will be fun, they say. I’m still taking a hard pass.

Free designer cocktails, they say. And that’s a game-changer.

Too bad my ex shows up with his new arm candy. That’s when I lose my mind. But when my besties dare me to leap on the first single man I see, they don’t expect me to actually go through with it.

TOM

All I need right now is some peace and quiet while my home renovation TV show is on hiatus. But when a curvy woman in a red wrap dress charges me like she’s a gymnast about to mount my high bar, all I can do is brace myself and catch her. What follows is the hottest experience of my adult life.

I want a repeat, but my flying Cinderella disappears immediately afterward. She doesn’t leave a glass slipper, either—just a pair of panties with chocolate bunnies printed on them.

Man Hands (Man Hands, #1)Man Hands by Sarina Bowen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sarina Bowen is one of my favorite authors – authors whose books I pre-order as soon as the links go up. While I prefer her deeper, more emotional romantic novels to this light-hearted romantic comedy, it would be unfair to compare Man Hands to HIM/US, or to her True North series, because of the change in genre. It’s supposed to be a simpler story, with less complex characters, and it is. Overall, Man Hands is satisfying and thoroughly entertaining–the perfect diversion if you’re looking for a light, uncomplicated read that just makes you feel good all over. The premise is not necessarily unique (“home improvement” themes are cropping up all over the place right now), but it’s immediately engaging. The inciting event, when the two principal characters met, is outrageous and hilarious; the dialogue is clever and funny; the principal characters are unique and relatable: a handyman (albeit a famous one), and an English professor, a cookbook writer, and a food blogger. The secondary characters are delightfully quirky and developed enough to stand on their own as this new series continues.

I love that Brynn is not a drop-dead-gorgeous, super-slender damsel in distress. Based on her description, she’s more of a BBW, struggling with the same body image and self-esteem issues many women feel when they re-enter the dating world after a divorce. I love that she happens to be just what Tom–who is still stinging from the callous rejection of his would-be fiancée–sees her for the creative, exuberant woman that she is and falls in love with her because of it. I also love that Brynn is willing to give Tom the benefit of the doubt when other heroines would be whining in their fancy cocktails. I love that they are both willing to risk their hearts while they figure out what their relationship truly is and what it means.

I look forward to seeing Brynn and Tom again in the sequel, Man Card. I thoroughly enjoyed taking a break from the holiday rush to dive into this sweet rom-com, and I recommend it without reservations.

Two fantastic authors deliver one wonderful standalone Romance…it’s

Temporary

by Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry

Front Cover, Temporary

Synopsis

The most beautiful man I’ve ever seen is the one who can ruin everything…

The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants.

And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.

I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful — pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full-time job for me. It has to.

But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.

And it works–if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can’t afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.

Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo…

Review: 4.5 Stars

Temporary is a sweet, contemporary Cinderella story that will sweep you off your feet, but also hot enough to melt your glass slippers!

In this hot new stand-alone romance by Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry, your Prince Charming is Callan, a hot Aussie playboy and the estranged black sheep in his family’s cattle dynasty, Walker Holdings, Inc.

Grace, our Cinderella, works as a temp in Manhattan by day, raises her teenage sister–Olivia–by night, and desperately hopes her current assignment will secure her future with Walker Holdings.

The primary source of conflict is Callan’s cold-blooded, manipulative, power-hungry mother, Victoria, who hires Grace to inventory the holdings of her deceased brother, Callan’s beloved uncle, who lived in New York until his death. Victoria Walker is a classic fairy tale villain archetype, a greedy, heartless woman you’ll truly love to hate.

Like any fairy tale, there’s a beautiful message underneath; and like the Cinderella story, it’s all about family. There’s the dark side: greed, sibling rivalry, money, and power. But there’s also the bright side: love, honor, self-sacrifice, and humility. The plot is driven by the pull of sexual attraction (which, by the way, is a very powerful attraction); the struggle between what the head wants and what the heart needs; and the vulnerability that results when you risk it all for the sake of a love that may turn out to be only a fantasy. It’s heart-warming, mildly suspenseful, emotional and unexpectedly inspiring.

If you’re looking for a sweet, sexy, funny, poignant story that will allow you to escape into your most tempting romantic fantasy, lose yourself in Temporary this weekend. It’s a decadent delight.

An Interview with Sarah & Sarina

What do you enjoy most about collaborating/co-writing a book? What are the possible pitfalls and how do you handle them?
Sarah: The magic of having someone else write the book while I was sleeping never got old! And I got to wake up every morning to a Sarina Bowen scene. Doesn’t get much better than that!. There weren’t any major pitfalls that I can think of.
Sarina: The time difference was the only hard part. I confess to sending at least one email reading: Wake up! I had an idea. Poor Sarah. We had a lot of fun with the culture clash.
Is there one character you’ve written that has special meaning for you? Who’s character traits and/or arc changed you in some way as you wrote him or her? Who is it and why do they stand out as your favorite?
Sarah: There are two brothers who both had their own books – Tyler in The Last Goodbye, and Jon in One Good Reason. They were both survivors of an abusive father, and I found them both very moving books to write because one of my close friends had a difficult childhood and I wanted to really honor the truth of that.
Sarina: Corey from The Year We Fell Down will always be close to my heart. She taught me how to write a fierce heroine.
Is there a character from a book by another author that had a similar effect on you – or is generally unforgettable? Who is it and why?
Sarah: One of the first strong heroines who really stayed with me was Lessa, from Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonflight. She was such a difficult, determined, complicated woman, and at the end of the day she risked everything to save her world.
Sarina: Some of Alice Hoffman’s female characters are still close to me even twenty years after I’ve read them. Nora Silk from Seventh Heaven is so wonderfully unique.
What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received?
Sarah: Don’t worry about what any other writer is doing or what’s happening in their career. I didn’t understand that when I first heard it, but now I do. You write the books you write, and you have your own career, no one else’s. You’ve got to run your own race.
Sarina: Give your characters internal yearnings that they can’t yet articulate on page one. It hasn’t failed me yet.
What would you like your readers to know about you new story? What do you hope they take away from it?
Sarah: I want them to know we had so much fun writing it. I would literally giggle with glee when I woke up and read what Sarina had written that day. I would love for readers to have as much fun reading Temporary as we did writing it.
Sarina: I want them to know that Callan is a very unique hottie. You won’t want to miss him.

Hello Forever, a beautiful new MM second-chance romance by Sarina Bowen

Hello Forever (Pay it Forward, #2)Hello Forever by Sarina Bowen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love Sarina’s writing voice; it always feels natural, particularly the way she uses alternating first-person POV, a personal favorite for the new adult romance genre. I also know that even the most lighthearted of Sarina’s stories holds a deeper meaning, evokes a broad range of emotions, and leaves a lasting impression on the reader. Her MM contemporary romance novels are among the best in the genre, and Hello Forever is no exception.

It would be difficult to outdo the powerful storyline in the first book of the Pay it Forward series (Goodbye Paradise), which is one of the best MM new adult love stories I’ve ever read. That being said, Hello Paradise stands on its own merits as a heart-warming, angsty, second-chance love story between Axel, a young man who has come to terms with his sexuality, and his childhood best friend Cax, who has been denied that privilege by the threats and actions of an abusive, homophobic parent.

Cax’s loneliness and sense of desperation are palpable. He’s trapped in the closet and kept from experiencing the love of his life by a controlling, manipulative bigot. The push-and-pull between Axel and Cax hooked me from the beginning and kept me in suspense from beginning to end.

The angst and longing are offset with humor sprinkled throughout the story, especially through its secondary characters. The sex scenes are sometimes tender and poignant, but also raw and passionate – perfect for the emotional journey of its characters. The only downside for me was that the villain felt two-dimensional, lacking any redeeming qualities whatsoever, so his violent and vengeful actions felt predictable. Nevertheless, I read it in one sitting and will probably read it again.

There’s also one big bonus: Hello Forever brings the beloved characters from book one into the second story — creating a sense of connection and “family” within the series. And one subplot offers the promise of another story featuring Jason, an intriguing secondary character from books one and two.

Hello Forever is a sweet, life-affirming story that is relatively short, engaging and easy to read. Highly recommended for MM, second-chance, and new adult contemporary romance fans alike. Love is love, and nobody can make you feel the highs and lows of love like Sarina Bowen.

Most people called it a cult. But for twenty years, Josh & Caleb called it home.

In Paradise, there is no television. No fast food. Just long hours of farm work and prayer on a dusty Wyoming ranch, and nights in a crowded bunkhouse. The boys of the Compound are kept far from the sinners’ world.

But Joshua doesn’t need temptation to sin. His whole life, he’s wanted his best friend, Caleb. By day they work side by side. Only when Josh closes his eyes at night can they be together the way he craves.

It can never be. And his survival depends on keeping his terrible desires secret.

Caleb has always protected Josh against the worst of the bullying at the Compound. But he has secrets of his own, and a plan to get away — until it all backfires.

Josh finds himself homeless in a world that doesn’t want him. Can Caleb find him in time? And will they find a place of safety, where he can admit to Josh how he really feels?

Book Review

Goodbye Paradise (Hello Goodbye, #1)Goodbye Paradise by Sarina Bowen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodbye Paradise is a must-read for anyone who loves an unforgettable M/M romance. Quite simply, it captured my heart, melted it, and put it back together. The story is unique and compelling, written in the alternating POV of its two primary characters, Caleb and Josh.

Caleb Smith and Joshua Royce grew up together on Paradise Ranch, an isolated community run by a stringent religious cult in rural Wyoming. (Fans of Sarina will recognize it as the same compound featured in her bestselling True North series.) But Caleb and Josh have something else in common: a powerful forbidden attraction. They’re forced to hide their feelings, even from each other, or face brutal retribution at the hands of their peers and elders.

Caleb, as a descendent of the Divine Pastor, is relatively safe in Paradise, but Josh always has been an outcast, considered weak — a trait that also makes young men like him “disposable.” It’s only a matter of time before he finds himself taken from the compound by force, bound, beaten, and left on the side of the highway, far from the only home he’s ever known. His only hope lies in a hastily whispered promise from Caleb — to find him and escape the pain of Paradise together.

Their journey is deeply emotional, passionate, tender, and sometimes heartbreaking; but it’s also joyful, funny, and heartwarming. You don’t just read the story; you live it: every joy, every fear, every setback, every heartbreak, and every triumph. And then there’s the sex. Initially tender and tentative, as they become more experienced and comfortable with each other, the heat rises to epic proportions, with a kitchen counter scene that might set your reader on fire.

Goodbye Paradise is a standalone novel with a happy-ever-after, but Sarina will make you sweat for it. The shadow of a lifetime in Paradise affects each character differently, sometimes putting themselves at odds with each other, or at war with their spiritual beliefs. And when a young woman from Caleb’s past arrives, seeking refuge in their new home, their future is anything but certain.
From beginning to end, Goodbye Paradise is a hard-fought love story. It’s also a story you won’t soon forget, with a cast of characters that will stay in your heart forever. A standalone sequel (Hello Forever) will release soon, so get started with this stunning duet today.

Summary

Six years have passed since the awful day when Axel and Caxton were caught making out in the woods at church camp. They were only teenagers then, but Axel had been devastated when Cax had cut off all contact with him. After that, his best friend seemed to vanish.

So Axel is astonished to find his first love’s face in the crowd of a college basketball game he’s watching on TV—at a college which has just offered him a job. It’s a thousand miles away, in a tiny rural town. But suddenly, he can’t wait to get there.

Cax can’t believe his eyes when Axel appears in the same Massachusetts town where he now lives. And he’s still just as drawn to Axel as ever. But he can’t let himself go there again. Because loving Axel will mean losing everything else he holds dear.

Both men have so much to lose. But as far as their love is concerned, it’s Hello Forever.

Hello Forever is a stand-alone novel with no cliffhangers. Readers of  Goodbye Paradise will get a chance to check in on Caleb and Josh and their clan.
